Job Description – Sr. System/Network Engineer (Full Time)

 

 

We have an immediate opportunity for a fulltime Sr. System/Network Engineer on our Professional Services team at our Vancouver office. Our ideal candidate has 5-7 years of proven experience.

The Role

The system- /network engineer is responsible for the installation and configuration of system- /network hardware and software and the related equipment at our customers. You would actively participate in the technical preliminary research and the development of a plan of approach to design an infrastructure that works best for the customer.

 

You are part of an engineering team that is responsible for designing and developing scalable, maintainable, highly available system-/network architectures that meet the business objectives of our customers and their SLAs.The success of the team is driven by strong customer service and an innovative approach to solutions that would not be possible without a commitment to teamwork.

 

 

 

Some of the things you will work on:

  • Install and configure system hardware and software and services (e.g. Servers, operating systems and virtualization technologies);

  • Install and configure network hardware and software and services (e.g. Routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, BGP, OSPF and QoS);

  • Perform system upgrades and network maintenance (e.g. service packs, patches, hotfixes, and security updates);

  • Become familiar with the customer environment, the organizational structure, processes and procedures to develop a plan to provide an adequate system/network solution;

  • Work within the customer's defined configuration and change management policy to ensure the awareness, approval and success of changes to the network infrastructure;

  • Select and implement security tools, policies and procedures in collaboration with the customer's system/network team;

  • Monitor system/network performance and usage to report on trends on capacity availability and security;

  • Provide support and solve problems to do adequate troubleshooting;

  • Keep in touch with suppliers and other IT staff for troubleshooting;

  • Develop and maintain system/network documentation and procedures;

  • Help to build, maintain and solve problems with the IT infrastructure of Strada Networks.

 

 

Must have skills:

  • Cisco, Juniper Windows, VMware certifications

  • Experience with a scripting language (e.g. Python)

  • Hands-on experience with monitoring, diagnostic and analytics tool

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field a must

  • Experience 5 - 7 Years

  • You must be authorized to work in Canada

  • Must have good documentation and English skills, French is an asset

  • Must have a vehicle and a valid driver’s license

  • Experience in installing, managing and maintaining Operating Systems (e.g. Windows Server, Linux);

  • Experience in installing, managing and maintaining server virtualization technologies (e.g. VMWare Server/ESX, Microsoft HyperV);

  • Experience with system/network upgrades (e.g. service packs, patches, hotfixes, and security updates);

  • Experience in installing, managing and maintaining IP networks (e.g. routers, switches, firewalls, load-balancers);

  • Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g. IPSEC, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, PPPoE, QoS)

  • Deep understanding of System/Network Services (e.g. LDAP, Active Directory, Radius, DHCP, DNS)

  • Experience installing and maintaining networks monitoring tools (e.g. Juniper/Cisco Network Management tools or generic tools like e.g. SNMP, Nagios);

  • Experience with Network Virtualization;

  • Deep understanding of providing support and solve problems to do adequate troubleshooting
